Buying an apartment is a huge milestone, but transforming an unfinished space into a warm and welcoming home is an entirely different journey. Three years ago, I bought a raw, unfinished apartment in Mohali—just four walls and a concrete floor, waiting to be turned into a dream home. Looking back at where it started and seeing how it has evolved, I can truly appreciate the effort, planning, and creativity that went into the process.
The Beginning: A Blank Canvas
When I first stepped into the apartment, it lacked all the essentials that make a home functional and comfortable. There were no doors, no wardrobes, and no storage. The walls were unfinished, and there was no electrical setup in place. It was just a bare structure, waiting for life to be infused into it. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, I saw potential. I envisioned a cozy, elegant, and modern living space, and I was excited to get started on this journey.
The Renovation Process
The transformation of this apartment involved multiple phases, each focusing on essential aspects of home-building. Here’s how I went about turning this raw space into a fully functional, stylish home:
1. Woodwork: Crafting Functionality & Aesthetics
One of the most important aspects of the renovation was woodwork. It brought structure, elegance, and a sense of warmth to the home. I focused on:
- Doors & Windows – Installed sturdy, well-designed wooden doors that matched the aesthetic of the house, along with quality windows for ventilation and natural light.
- Cupboards & Wardrobes – Built custom wardrobes and cupboards that provide ample storage while blending seamlessly into the interior design. Each room now has dedicated storage space, keeping the home organized and clutter-free.
2. Electrical Work: Powering Up the Home
An unfinished apartment means starting from scratch when it comes to electrical work. This phase was crucial, as I had to plan out the entire electrical layout, including:
- Installing wiring and electrical fittings for lights, fans, and appliances.
- Adding power outlets in convenient locations to suit modern-day needs.
- Ensuring a safe and efficient electrical setup with proper distribution panels and circuit breakers.
3. Painting: Bringing Life to the Walls
Once the woodwork and electrical work were complete, the next step was painting. Paint plays a huge role in defining the overall vibe of a home. I opted for:
- Neutral tones throughout the house to create a bright, spacious feel.
The Final Transformation
After months of hard work, patience, and decision-making, the apartment finally started taking shape. The raw space I had bought was now a beautiful, well-lit, and functional family home. Every detail, from the wooden finishes to the lighting placement, was carefully thought out to create a space that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
